Dr. Elizabeth Trejos-Castillo is the C.R. Hutcheson Endowed Associate Professor of Human Development & Family Studies at Texas Tech University. Dr. Trejos-Castillo is the founder and Director of the Graduate Minor and Graduate Certificate in Cross-Cultural Studies. She is an International Adjunct Professor in the Department of Applied Social Sciences at the State University of Ponta Grossa, Parana-Brazil as well as in the Departments of Psychology and Medicine, Biostatistics, and Epidemiology at CES University, Medellin-Colombia (South America). Her research focuses on the etiology of risk-taking behaviors, toxic-stress, trauma and deviance in vulnerable youth with a focus on ethnic minorities and underserved populations using a cross-cultural/cross-national mixed methods comparative approach. Elizabeth is the editor of the books: Handbook of Foster Youth (2018-. New York: Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group) and Youth: Practices, Perspectives and Challenges (2013; Nova Science Publishers, Hauppauge, NY) plus over 40 research papers and book chapters. She was a Fulbright Fellow in Brazil during 2018 funded by the U.S. Department of State conducting research with foster and juvenile justice youth. During the past 20+ years, she has worked closely with several local community, statewide partners, and international collaborators (e.g., Brazil, Colombia, Honduras, India) to support the well-being and positive developmental outcomes in vulnerable and at-risk youth.
